Tigerbay goes virtual with Mark Warner at Travel Technology Europe

Ski simulation at show on stand T344

Tigerbay will be using this year's Travel Technology Europe as the launch platform for its latest innovation - a Virtual Reality (VR) ski holiday simulation - which it has created in tandem with its client Mark Warner.

A 360 degree video of a ski holiday experience (including plenty of slope action as well as chalet life) will be available to view through VR headsets on the stand, and will also be optimised to work across all flat screens. It will enable Mark Warner to showcase an in-resort experience as part of the website booking process, a new sales tool for tour operators to use during the customer's online booking journey.

Tigerbay's new VR sales tool is part of its drive for bleeding-edge innovation in the technology space. Augmented Reality (AR) and VR are at the front line of technology development and consumption. Christmas 2016 sales proved this, with VR headsets, from all brands and across all price points, breaking records. Investments into VR and AR technologies are in the $ billions.

"Clearly this is an area that is only set to grow. Although we might not know what a VR/AR world could look like in 30 year's time, we do know change is ahead. Screens could become as anachronistic as the horse and carriage," comments Carl Morgan, MD of Tigerbay.

"At Tigerbay we have a team of super-innovative developers who are always looking to the future of development. Knowing AR/VR is here to stay, we made the decision to create a tool for tour operators which, although limited in its application today (video only) has the potential to evolve rapidly"."

"Currently our joint project allows the user to 'road test' their holiday in a way still pictures simply cannot. As technologies advance however, we can see videos like this becoming integrated into the booking process itself, enabling consumers to select room types, add-ons and more, from within the video experience. The potential is huge."

Visitors to TTE are invited to come to stand T344 and try the new VR video for themselves, and speak to the team about the future of AR and VR in the travel industry.

In addition, Carl Morgan will be joining a panel in a session moderated by Kevin May, called "The new reality. Are VR and AR just games or a business tool?" It takes place on 22 February, from 15:30-16:30, in the Travel Tech Theatre.

  • The intuitiveness of the Tigerbay system is one of its key assets; and the simplicity of the back office allows new staff members to be trained quickly and accurately. Tigerbay has also given us the flexibility to be able to offer targeted promotional campaigns online which have proven popular with both trade and direct clients.

  • Tigerbay’s day-to-day usability is fantastic. Bookings now take half the time they did with the previous system. It has helped us increase efficiency, improve accuracy and streamline our business.
